Santiago – 2 hours
Santo Domingo – 3 hours
Punta Cana – min. 4 hours
How do I get from the airport to the apartments?
We can arrange your taxi transfer for you.

Santiago | 2 hours | $100 |
Santo Domingo | 3-4 Hours | $200 |

Where is Swiss Kite Beach Condos?
Swiss Kite Beach Condos is located within the Kite Beach Hotel complex. You can see our location on google maps here.
What public transport options are there in Cabarete?
Like many countries in this region, road safety in the Dominican Republic is sketchy at best. For this reason, we recommend private taxis as the safest and most comfortable way to travel – these can be easily located directly outside the complex.
Nonetheless, if you want to travel around without taxis, there are several cheap and convenient options available from directly outside our complex:
- Motoconchos – motorbike taxis that can be found pretty much everywhere. Even if you’re not looking for one, they’ll let you know they’ve found you with an opportunistic “Moto? Moto?”. Price to Cabarete: 50 pesos. At night: 100 pesos. Agree the price before starting your journey.
- Guaguas – vans acting as buses that continuously drive the main road through Puerto Plata-Sosua-Cabarete-Rio San Juan. You can hop on/hop off whenever you want – expect to share your seat! Price to Cabarete: 25 pesos. At night: no service
- Carritos – ancient but charming Toyota Corollas that work similarly to Guaguas. Price to Cabarete: 35 pesos. At night: 50 pesos
Do I need to hire a car?
Unless you have experience driving in countries with questionable road safety standards, we do not recommend driving in the Dominican Republic. If you would like to rent a car, we can arrange this for you with a reputable (i.e. the insurance actually works) local company. Contact us for prices.
I’ve Arrived
How does your Self-Check-In work?
All our apartments our fitted with electronic combination locks which means you can come and go as you please without using keys. Shortly before check in you will receive the combination code. If you do not read your check in message, you will not be able to find or access the apartment.
Can I check in early / Check out late?
Check in is anytime from 4pm
Check out is anytime before 11am
Early Check-in?
Our check in time is set for 4pm because we often have guests leaving the same day you arrive and the cleaner needs some time to prepare the apartment for you. In any case, we do offer an early bag drop off service. You can drop your bags off anytime from 12pm and then relax on the beach/by the pool until the apartment is ready. Please be sure to place your bags just by the entrance so our cleaners are not disturbed.
Late Check-out?
It is difficult for us to get the apartment ready for the next guests if you do not vacate at 11am. Our housekeepers may be able to offer you a slightly later check out depending on when our next guests are arriving. Late check outs can not be confirmed until check out day. In any case, we do offer a bag holding service and you are welcome to leave your bags (neatly packed by the entrance) for an hour or so while our housekeepers begin their preparations for the next guests.
Do you recommend a particular Kite school and/or Surf School?
My partner and I have experience with every school here at Kite Beach. If you plan to have lessons/supervision/rental for either kiting or surfing, please do contact us so we can put you in touch directly with the best instructors & rental options.
What currency is used? Where can I convert currency?
Dominican peso is the main currency used here. US dollars are used in some places, but they will use a bad exchange rate. It is best to pay everything in pesos.
Do not exchange your money at the airport! We recommend you exchange at the following places. Make sure you take your passport with you. You can find all locations online.
Is it easy to get cash out? Where can I get cash out?
As with all travelling, please do inform your personal bank that you will be travelling to the Dominican Republic. It is common that banks put a block on debit and credit cards if they are used abroad without notice.
Most ATM machines have a maximum withdrawal amount of RD$8000 pesos. If you inside the bank with your passport, you can withdraw larger amounts.
The closest banks to kite beach are Banca Santa Cruz and Banco Popular – there are several other banks in town.
How far is Kite Beach from Cabarete town center?
Cabarete town is 5mins from Kite Beach by car and approx 25mins walk along the beach. This makes Kite Beach the perfect place to stay in Cabarete because it is easy to get to town, but just far enough away so that none of the nightlife noise reaches us at night.
Are there supermarkets/food stores nearby Kite Beach?
2min walk – a dominican-style fruit & veg stand is just across the road & to the left of Kite Beach Hotel.
2min drive – La Rosa is a small supermarket with most items you’ll need but not much variety.
